Peterborough United Chairman Darragh MacAnthony has moved quickly to shoot down reports regarding the suggested fee of Jack Marriott’s sale to Derby County.

Several outlets have reported the fee to be an initial £2.5million, rising to £5million.

But the Posh owner has hit back at the figure being banded around as being ‘miles off.’

The two clubs have agreed to the sale of the 33-goal striker to move to the Championship side.

The Rams did have three bits rejected before finally agreeing on a fee for the League One hot-shot.

Marriott has been keen on joining Derby but has featured prominently in Peterborough’s pre-season fixtures so far.

That was until the striker, who was originally named in the starting XI for Posh’s friendly against Gainsborough Trinity, was pulled form the side at the last minute to be allowed to speak to Frank Lampard and Derby.

The Verdict

In this day and age, the fee reported seems ridiculously low. Especially considering Marriott is still only 23-years-old.

You have to agree with MacAnthony that the fee will be substantially more than what has been reported.

And why wouldn't it be? He scored 33-goals last season. Whatever league that is in, it is remarkably impressive.

Regardless if he turns out to be a one-season wonder, the striker has shown talent and ability to earn a move to the Championship.

The fee will be considerable but despite that,  you can see him settling in at Derby under Lampard.

Marriott and Derby seem like a match made in heaven.
