Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has taken to social media to defend striker Jason Cummings, who was seen in a bizarre online video smashing up his own flat this weekend.

Cummings, who is on loan at Posh from Nottingham Forest, and was recently named League One Player of the Month, was caught in the short video throwing chairs at windows and smashing a widescreen TV, before being pictured in his underwear running manically around the flat.

MacAnthony has confirmed on Twitter that he felt the striker had been daft, but the situation has been dealt with inhouse and the furore needs to settle down as the youngster learns his lesson.

"He's fine," tweeted the Posh supremo. "Been dealt with in-house and yes he’s made a daft mistake but let’s calm down. He will learn quickly from moments of stupidity."

Cummings has been a revelation at Peterborough following a summer loan move from Forest. He's scored six times as Posh have climbed to the top of the league. He scored five in three games, culminating in a brace as Posh sunk Plymouth 5-1 at Home Park.

That form that has begun to rebuild his reputation after failing to secure a Rangers move in the summer, despite having spent time on loan there with a view to buy last season.

The Verdict

Bizarre is the only word for it. In the video Cummings looks dazed and perhaps a little worse for wear as he hurls furniture and electrical goods around.

Peterborough will want to play down the incident as much as possible, they can't have their star man losing form at this crucial stage of the season. One wonders what Aitor Karanka makes of it all.
