Football League World's Barnsley fan pundit, Dan Sykes has high hopes for recent new signing, Conor Chaplin, after the player's arrival was confirmed on Friday.

The former Coventry City man seemingly made a good impression on Daniel Stendel, who will be hoping to add to the depth of his squad, as they look to prepare for life in the Championship.

"Overall, I think Conor Chaplin may well make an impact at Barnsley next season, albeit I can't see him replacing Cauley Woodrow as first-choice striker.

"Daniel Stendel's tactics, however, should suit his game far better than the style of play he was shoe-horned into last year at Coventry and he could well play a key part in season which might take many by surprise."

Sykes went on to admit that he trusts Stendel's judgement with this transfer, and is hoping that his side can establish themselves in the Championship as quickly as possible with Chaplin in their team.

"I don't think we will be relegated by May 2020 and could finish anywhere from 20th to being outsiders for the play-offs. It all depends how the new players gel and if the players from last season kick on again.

"It's obvious that Chaplin is someone that has been on our radar for a while and if the manager believes in him, then he is certainly worth a punt."

The Barnsley fan pundit is hoping that Chaplin can follow in the footsteps of Cauley Woodrow, who wasn't the most of inspiring of signings at the time for the Tykes.

Woodrow went on to score 16 goals last season, as Stendel's side won promotion back into the Championship at the first time of asking.

"No one rated Woodrow last year and he has smashed expectations and been on fire both last year and in pre-season.

"I think this management team has shown that if the board provides the type of players they want, they will get the best out of them. I'd back him to chip in with at least 10 goals given the chance."
