The 2017 summer transfer window has been nothing short of mind boggling, with astronomical fees and surprise moves dominating the back pages as teams across the globe look to strengthen ahead of their own pursuit of glory.

The Sky Bet Championship has been no exception, and with a month of the window left to play out, we have already seen the league’s transfer record smashed, and millions spent as clubs chase promotion to the riches of the Premier League.

Top strikers have moved for serious money, but the latest news to emerge from Bolton Wanderers may shock fans more than Wolves’ big money swoop for Ruben Neves.

Brace yourselves, football fans, but the Trotters are said to be interested in bringing former Real Madrid and Brazil striker Julio Baptista to the Macron Stadium.

The 35-year-old was released by MLS side, Orlando City, last year, and manager Phil Parkinson has expressed an interest in acquiring the forward as his side prepare to battle for second tier survival next season.

The vastly experienced Baptista is certainly past his best, but with 47 Brazil caps to his name and with a few years left in the tank, and striker could still bring a dosage of the famous Brazilian flair to the Championship next season.

Baptista has consistently scored goals through his long, illustrious career, and the two time Copa America winner would certainly provide an improvement on the options currently at Parkinson’s arrival.

Bolton’s financial difficulties have been well documented in recent years, so thrashing out a contract with Baptista may prove difficult, but if Parkinson can offer the Brazilian another stint in English football, he may find the offer hard to refuse.

This deal seems unlikely, but with Baptista keen to be back in football after an almost year break from the game, Parkinson may just pull off a shock, and add a phenomenal talent to his Trotters squad.

Could Baptista shine at Championship level or is he past it?
