Stoke City have agreed a deal with League One side Fleetwood Town for the season-long loan of Potters' centre-back Harry Souttar, according to Football Insider.

The 20-year-old spent the second-half of last season under Joey Barton's stewardship and is now set to return to Highbury for the entirety of the 2019/2020 campaign.

According to the report, Souttar turned down similar offers from nine other clubs in order to ensure he returned to the Cod Army - and will become their sixth signing of the summer.

He also becomes the third player to leave Stoke City this summer with Josh Tymon and Erik Pieters leaving for FC Famalicao and Burnley respectively.

It has been a busy summer for Nathan Jones this summer as he looks to put his mark on the Potters following a bitterly disappointing first season back in the second tier.

Seven new faces have arrived at the Bet365 Stadium including Liam Lindsay, Tommy Smith, Lee Gregory and Nick Powell.

The Potters had to settle for a 16th place finish last season despite being made convincing pre-season favourites to win promotion under Gary Rowett.

The verdict

I think this is a good move for all involved.

Souttar is clearly a player with an awful lot of promise and I do think he still has a bright future with Stoke, but the chances of him breaking into the first-team this season were always going to be slim.

With the likes of Liam Lindsay, Danny Batth, Ryan Shawcross and Bruno Martins-Indi all ahead of him in the pecking order, picking up some guaranteed minutes in the league below will only do him good.
