Alan Hutton believes that Siriki Dembele would be 'an unbelievable signing' for Celtic this summer.

The Peterborough United forward has enjoyed a wonderful campaign in League One after playing a central role in helping the club to secure automatic promotion to the Championship.

As part of that, Dembele's goals have been crucial.

The 24-year-old scored 12 and created 12 more for the posh, making him one of the most effective players in the third tier of English football.

Celtic and Rangers are thought to be two of the clubs interested in a move for Dembele, and according to Hutton, there's no doubt that he could make a big impact if the price is right.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton said: "Well, he’s scored a lot of goals.

“Yet again, Peterborough have found someone who can score goals. It’s unbelievable.

“If you look at their track record with players like Ivan Toney, Dembele will do what it says on the tin and that’s score goals.

“It would be a good addition. You just wonder about the fee, I understand he’s in the last 12 months in his contract.

“But if Peterborough and going to cash in, they will want decent money. It’s going to come down to how much they have to spend.

“Again, Celtic don’t have a manager. Who’s making the decisions about the budget? It’s such a difficult situation.

“He would be an unbelievable signing. He’s scored goals at a high level so he could come up and do it in the Premiership.”

The verdict

This could prove to be a really good summer signing.

Siriki Dembele has enjoyed a wonderful campaign for Peterborough United and has certainly earned the right to challenge himself at a higher level.

Whether that will be in the Championship with the Posh, or in the Scottish Premiership with Celtic, it remains to be seen.

I've no doubt that he could make a real impact though, and given that Odsonne Edouard could be moving on, it could be the perfect time to make the move.
