Scottish giants Celtic are readying a move for Wigan Athletic striker Joe Gelhardt, as per Football Insider.

The 17-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at the DW Stadium with him recording 17 appearances, scoring once for Paul Cook's side.

The news that the Latics are to go into administration has prompted Neil Lennon's side to enter the race for the emerging Championship talent, with Premier League side Everton also firmly in the running for the player.

It is expected that several key assets at Wigan could leave this summer to ensure funds are pumped back into the club as soon as possible, and Gelhardt is likely to be among those moved on.

The Latics would drop to the bottom of the Championship table, four points adrift of safety if the 12-point deduction is placed upon them for entering administration.

The verdict

Gelhardt is left-footed and technically very adept, with his awareness and ability on the ball very impressive for a player of his age.

If Celtic could get him for a relatively good fee then they will have a player who could have a very high sell-on value in a few years time.

The 17-year-old shows confidence above his years and his career trajectory only appears to be going one way.
