Both Celtic and Rangers are keen on highly-rated Preston North End midfielder Josh Brownhill, according to HITC.
Brownhill is currently impressing out on loan at Barnsley and is not short of admirers, but both Old Firm sides are confident they can secure his signature.
Being Scottish sides, the compensation they would have to pay will be significantly lower than their English rivals.
However with clubs such as Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton also interested, the deal is far from a foregone conclusion.
Brownhill doesn’t currently look like he has a future at Deepdale with his contract running out in the summer and a new deal yet to be agreed.
North End will be disappointed to lose such a talented prospect, so will presumably do everything they can to tie the midfielder down during the next few months.
The 20-year-old would be departing a side who have confounded all expectations this season.
Grayson’s side currently sit 10th in the Championship after promotion last campaign in a season where they were widely predicted to struggle.
If Brownhill does stay at the club, it would be expected he would have an important role to play next term, but that won’t be the case if either Celtic or Rangers can get their way.
