Celtic have completed the signing of Joey Dawson, with the young striker joining from Scunthorpe United.

The 18-year-old is very highly-rated by the League Two club and whilst he didn't manage to get regular minutes for the team in the fourth tier, he did become their youngest ever player when he featured in the Carabao Cup against Derby County two years ago.

That, combined with his prolific goalscoring record in the development sides, meant that the local lad was always someone who was going to attract attention from bigger clubs.

And, that has proven to be the case, with Celtic announcing his arrival on their official site this morning.

They state that the teenager has signed a three-year deal to link up with the Glasgow giants and he will join up with their development squad immediately with the intention of progressing into the first-team in the years to come.

Given his age, Scunthorpe will be entitled to compensation following the move, with the exact amount set out by the guidelines provided by FIFA for these sort of deals.

The verdict

This seems like it's a good move for all parties. Of course, in an ideal world for Scunthorpe, Dawson would've played for the first-team and left after scoring goals.

However, there will still be a huge sense of pride at the club that somebody they have developed since he was a kid has secured a move to a club like Celtic.

Now, the challenge for Dawson is to impress with the development side and he will hope to eventually force his way into the plans of the first-team in the years to come.
