Scottish champions Celtic have joined the race to sign Bristol City defender Aden Flint, according to reports online, via the Bristol Post.

The 6ft 6 defender had been subject to interest from rival Championship clubs all summer, with Birmingham and Norwich just two of the sides to show an interest in the giant centre-half.

The Blues are believed to be the higher bidder at this stage, with an offer in the region of £3.5 million rejected by the Robins in the past few days.

Birmingham boss Harry Redknapp’s interest in the player may cool following the signing of Brentford’s Harlee Dean, leaving the path open to the Champions League outfit to make a move for the 28-year-old.

Norwich also moved yesterday to add Newcastle defender Grant Hanley to their squad, but Daniel Farke may still consider a swoop for Flint, with his side holding the unenvious record of the worst defence in the Championship after five games of the new campaign.

The Verdict: Birmingham have shown the most interest in Flint this summer, with Redknapp having multiple bids for the player rejected by Lee Johnson.

Flint is a commanding centre half, and has been a loyal servant to the Robins since joining the club in 2013, and his threat from set pieces also makes the defender an enticing prospect to potential suitors.

Celtic have a huge fixture list this year having qualified for the Champions League Group Stages, and with money to spend from their European windfall, may consider launching a late bid for Bristol City’s star man.
