Celtic are plotting a swoop for Hull City striker Abel Hernandez, according to Italian site Calciomercato.it (via Inside Futbol).

27-year old Hernandez has been in fine form recently, bagging four goals since returning in March from a knee injury. After three goals in three games at the beginning of the season, he's been watching on from the side lines as Hull have fumbled their way to a lower mid table finish.

He's out of contract in the summer and Italian site Calciomercato.it (via Inside Futbol) report that Brendan Rodgers is looking to take him north of the border to bolster his side as they hunt European success to run alongside their domestic dominance.

The Uruguayan became Hull's record signing when he joined from Serie A side Palermo in 2014, costing them £9.5m as they plotted a stay in England's top flight.

Since then he's scored 35 league goals from 72 starts in a tenure punctuated by injuries, but has already stated he will be moving on in the summer.

His best season came in 2015/16 when he scored 22 in all competitions as Hull won the Championship play off to earn a Premier League return.

The Verdict

Hernandez will be a big loss for Hull, they might not realise it having had him on the bench all season, but to lose him now he's made a return will be a severe blow.

They would have hoped for some form of return on their £10m investment, but it looks likely now that they won't get it. He could do well at Celtic, he's still relatively young and has all the attributes to succeed in Scotland.
