Celtic will reignite their interest in Cardiff City's Josh Murphy when the summer transfer window opens.

The Scottish champions had been desperate to bring in a new winger before the January deadline and the Bluebirds wide man emerged as a target in the final day of the window.

Whilst a move didn't go through before the deadline, Football Insider are claiming that it isn't the end of the Hoops interest in the player, as they will now look to pursue a summer deal for the 24-year-old.

Murphy has struggled to establish himself as a regular in the Welsh capital, featuring in just 17 Championship games this season and many of those appearances came from the bench.

In that time he has scored just one goal, although he did star as Cardiff played Reading in the FA Cup during the week, scoring twice as Neil Harris' men eventually lost on penalties in a thrilling fourth round replay.

Neil Lennon will be revamping his Celtic squad in the summer and attacking players could be a priority, with Mohamed Elyounoussi only on loan at Parkhead whilst Mikey Johnston has suffered a serious knee injury.

The verdict

You'd have to say this would be a fantastic move for Murphy as he would be joining a huge club that play in Europe every year and are competing for trophies.

That's obviously a huge step up for someone who is in and out the Cardiff team. Given that, the Bluebirds would welcome the chance to do a deal with the Glasgow giants if they can get a decent fee for the winger.

As for Celtic, this would be a risky move as Murphy's career has stalled in recent years and it's a position they need to strengthen in the summer.
