Sky Bet Championship side Rotherham United are eyeing up a move for Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor, with a permanent or loan move being discussed between the two clubs, according to the Scotsman.
The 22-year-old midfielder has progressed through the ranks at Celtic, and last season scored five goals in 31 appearances for the 46-time Scottish Champions as they cruised to the SPL title.
But this season, McGregor has fallen down the pecking order at Celtic Park following the arrival of Scott Allan from Hibernian, and Rotherham United have been alerted that McGregor’s services may not be required at Celtic Park.
The Scotland U21 international does have experience in English football, where he had a successful spell at Notts County in the 2013/14 season, scoring 12 goals in 36 appearances for the Magpies, and it is believed that he has caught the attention of Millers boss Steve Evans, who looks set to make a bid in the region of £350,000 for McGregor.
McGregor did feature for Celtic on Saturday, when he came off the bench and scored for the Bhoys in their 3-1 away victory at Tannadice against Dundee United.
This suggests that McGregor is still in and around the first-team picture at Celtic, so they may not want to let McGregor go on a permanent transfer, and a loan deal may instead be struck between Rotherham and Celtic.
Rotherham boss Steve Evans will surely be actively pursuing a number of players as the closing of the transfer window approaches, with his side bottom of the Championship with one point from four games, and still reeling from a crushing 4-2 loss against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
