Celtic are one of the clubs reported to be interested in taking Wigan Athletic midfielder Nick Powell to Parkhead, according to TEAMTalk.

Brendan Rodgers' side face stiff opposition from a range of English Championship clubs, including Middlesbrough and Leeds, but have the attractive prospect of European football and a significant chance of lifting the Scottish title.

24-year old Powell has impressed since joining Wigan from Manchester United and has started the current campaign in exactly the same form he showed last season.

He's got three goals and three assists in his first five games, helping fire the Latics to 12th in the early table, exceeding their expectations.

As a teenager he cost the Red Devils £6m from Crewe Alexandra, but failed to live up to his promise in a United shirt. Loan spells with Wigan and Hull followed before a permanent switch to the DW stadium in July 2016.

Since then he's made 71 senior appearances for his side, scoring 24 times.

The Verdict

Nick Powell is a hugely talented midfielder with lots to offer at a higher level than he's currently playing at.

Wherever he moves, he's likely to be a success. A switch north of the border could bring Europa League football, assuming they can beat FK Sudova at home this Thursday.

That might give the Hoops the edge over their rivals for his services.
