Hull City defender Stephen Kingsley is a target for Scottish champions Celtic if they lose Kieran Tierney to Arsenal, a report from The Sun (04/08 print edition, p67) has claimed.

The Gunners have reportedly made several bids for Tierney throughout the course of the window, with a recent £25million offer rejected, and it now seems that Celtic are considering their options in case the 22-year-old does make the move to The Emirates Stadium.

According to the latest report from The Sun, Kingsley is one of several potential replacements for Tierney that Neil Lennon's side are looking at.

The 25-year-old played the full 90 minutes for Hull on Saturday as they lost 2-1 away at Swansea City in their opening game of the Championship season, and Sun journalist Alan Nixon recently reported that The Tigers are looking to sell the full-back in the current transfer window.

Having joined Hull from Swansea in the summer of 2017, Kingsley has made just 39 appearances in all competitions for the Tigers during his two years at the KCOM Stadium, where he has just 12 months remaining on his current contract.

The Verdict

This feels like something of a surprise to me.

Given the quality that Tierney has brought to Celtic, and the size of the fee they look set to receive from Arsenal if he does leave, you would have expected the Scottish champions will have wanted a strong new recruit in the left-back area to replace one of their key men from recent years.

Kingsley therefore, feels like a rather underwhelming for the Glasgow side, given he hasn't really been a regular feature anywhere since leaving Falkirk in the Scottish Championship in 2014.

As a result, you probably have to wonder just how far up Celtic's wanted list Kingsley really is, although Hull will surely be rubbing their hands at the prospect of the sort of fee the Scottish champions have the ability to offer them for a player who has never really made his mark at the KCOM Stadium.
