Celtic have completed the signing of Luca Connell after the youngsters impressive breakthrough at Bolton Wanderers in the Championship last season.

The 18-year-old was one of few bright spots for the Trotters as they were relegated to the third tier in a campaign that was marred by several off-the-field issues.

Connell featured in ten league games for Phil Parkinson's side and whilst he can play at full-back, he excelled in central midfield and such form has seen him train with Ireland over the summer.

Given Bolton's struggles a move seemed inevitable and a host of Premier League clubs were linked with a move for the teenager, however it's the Scottish champions who have won the race for the player.

The Glasgow giants confirmed his arrival on their official site this morning, revealing that Connell has signed a four-year deal at Parkhead to become the second signing in as many days for Neil Lennon after centre-back Christopher Jullien joined yesterday.

Given Connell's age, Celtic had to agree a fee for the player and Bolton claim they have paid more than the £250,000 development fee.

The Verdict

This is a great move for Connell and he will be delighted to have his future sorted after a lot of speculation in the past few weeks.

He is clearly a talented player but has a lot of improving to do and will want to kick-on under the guidance of Lennon to make an impact for the team.

As for Bolton, they knew that Connell would be leaving and it's a shame that they are in a position where they have little chance of keeping any talented youngsters they have.

But, he has brought in a decent fee which is important to the club.
