Celtic are set to consider moving for Preston North End boss Alex Neil this summer, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

The Hoops are without a manager after Brendan Rodgers left to take over at Leicester City, just shy of an unprecedented triple treble at Celtic Park.

He has been replaced by Neil Lennon, who will take over as interim manager until the summer. After that, they're on the hunt for a full time successor to the former Liverpool boss, with Neil high up on their list.

He's managed in Scotland before, taking charge of Hamilton Academical before his move to Norwich City. He left his role at Carrow Road in March 2017 with the club eighth in the table, but has impressed in his spell with Preston.

He's worked well on a tight budget, but has lifted them to 12th in the table, six points adrift of the top six. Had they started the season stronger, they'd almost certainly be involved in the play-off hunt.

At just 37, Neil is still a relatively young manager and took Norwich into the Premier League via the play-offs, only to be relegated a year later.

The Verdict

This would be an interesting move by Celtic. Neil is still young and shown he wasn't affected by his Norwich dismissal. That sacking was harsh, they'd been around the top six all season but just missed out on an immediate return.

It would be a strong move, not opting for a so-called big name which Rangers did with Steven Gerrard, but going for someone with a track record and scope to develop.
