Celtic remain in talks with Peterborough over Ivan Toney, even though Brentford are believed to have had an offer for the striker accepted.

The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the most exciting talents in the EFL after another outstanding individual campaign for the Posh that saw Toney hit 24 league goals in 32 games.

Therefore, a failure to win promotion as the season was controversially cut short meant the club knew Toney would be moving on.

And, a whole host of clubs have been linked with the former Newcastle United man and The Sun have revealed that even though the Bees have had a bid accepted, Celtic remain in talks about striking a deal of their own.

There are question marks over the future of Odsonne Edouard after his fine year, although Neil Lennon is surely going to want a new number nine anyway as the Glasgow giants chase a historic tenth title in a row.

It had been suggested in the past that Toney would command a fee of around £11m.

The verdict

Firstly, you have to say that Toney is a brilliant player and his form in the past 12-18 months has been incredible, so this interest in him is completely justified.

He has the ability to step up to play for a club the size of Celtic and he would give them the depth that they need in the final third.

So, as the race for his signature hots up, it's going to be down to the interested clubs to match the suitable offer that's made.
