Peterborough United have reportedly placed a £4 million price tag on Celtic and Rangers target Siriki Dembele, who is set to leave the Championship club next summer.

The 25-year-old was linked with the two Scottish giants throughout the summer after scoring 11 times and providing 12 assists as he helped Posh secure promotion to the Championship last season.

Dembele has been a regular fixture in Barry Ferguson's side this term, scoring four times and adding two assists, but is out of contract in the summer and has rejected the new deal offered to him by his current club.

According to Football Insider, Peterborough are determined not to let the attacker leave in the January window despite the risk of losing him for nothing next term and have placed a £4 million price tag on him to ward off interested parties.

Celtic, Rangers, and Fulham are said to be keen on signing Dembele and it is thought a major offer from one of them could force Posh's hand.

The Verdict

Given Peterborough look set for a relegation battle this season, it's not a huge surprise that they'd rather keep hold of Dembele and risk losing him in the summer for nothing than look to cash in when the transfer window opens in January.

The 25-year-old has been a key attacking player under Ferguson in recent seasons and if he can help keep Posh in the Championship, that decision will certainly look worth it.

£4 million may well be enough to ward off the likes of Celtic and Rangers in the upcoming window but their long-standing interest does suggest they'll be waiting to snap him up ahead of the summer.

Setting a price tag is one thing but we know that Peterborough are a selling club and a multi-million-pound offer may make them reconsider their stance on Dembele.
