Cellino hires forensic accountants to sort out ‘financial chaos’

Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino has employed a team of forensic accountants to investigate the club’s finances after advisors told the Italian it was ‘the worst mess they’ve ever seen at a football club’, reports the Daily Mail.

Leeds’ training ground, Thorp Arch, has been closed for the summer in a bid to save money, redundancies have been made and the Daily Mail understand some staff were not paid last week because the club bank account has been frozen.

The cost cutting was taken after the club was served with a winding-up petition by former manager director David Haigh, on the behalf of his company Sports Capital, over an unpaid debt.

The news comes after reports this week of the apparent sour relationship between Massimo Cellino and manager Brian McDermott, which has allegedly resulted in the two communicating via letters.

Cellino has ordered the manager, coaching staff and playing staff to report back to the club on May 28 – over a month before pre-season was set to start at Elland Road.
