Football League World’s Leeds United fan pundit Bradley Marshall has suggested it would be catastrophic for the Whites if on-loan centre-back Ben White was recalled by Brighton in January.

Leeds CEO Angus Kinnear revealed earlier this week on the Talking Shutt podcast that there was a January recall clause in White’s deal but suggested he felt it was unlikely it would be used.

Is this the WORST Leeds United XI from the last 15 years? We'll let YOU decide....

The defender has replaced summer departee Pontus Jansson in Marcelo Bielsa’s side and has been integral so far, featuring in every single game this season.

White has helped Leeds to concede the fewest goals in the Championship and climb to the top of the table.

Marshall indicated that the 21-year-old’s exit would have a huge impact on the side.

When asked if he was concerned about the January recall clause in White’s loan deal, he said: “Yes without a doubt, he has been one of our most consistent players this season and is showing so much promise under Bielsa.

“He has fitted into our system and made it look like this isn't his first season playing for the Whites.”

He added: “The blow would be catastrophic if we lost Ben in January. We would then need a competent first-team defender to come in and adjust immediately so that they could fill in for him–I personally think that is an unrealistic target.

“He looks so comfortable on the ball and also brings Liam Cooper's best performances out.

“I believe that Cooper looks a more rounded player alongside White than he did when he was playing with Jansson. I feel that you always know what you're going to get with White.”

Marshall suggested that any defensive business Leeds do in the January transfer window should be reliant White’s exit.

He said: “If we lose White then we most definitely need some reinforcements, however, with the likes of Gaetano Berardi and Pascal Struijk on the bench I feel if we keep hold of White we will have enough strength in depth.”

Leeds face a visit from Derby County on Saturday, which will be the first meeting between the two sides since the Rams knocked them out of the play-offs in May.
