Ben Thompson responded in the perfect way to being left out of the starting XI for Millwall's win over Sheffield Wednesday at The Den.

Following a frustrating first-half of the campaign, Thompson had made five consecutive starts prior to the visit of the Owls.

However, with games coming thick and fast, the Millwall Academy graduate was left on the bench.

But having replaced January signing Maikel Kieftenbeld at the break, Thompson took less than 25 minutes to leave his mark on the game in South Bermondsey.

Kenneth Zohore had cancelled out Callum Paterson's early strike before Scott Malone produced a moment of genius to complete the turnaround.

And less than 60 seconds later, Thompson registered his own goal of the season contender, although he'll be some way behind Malone's exquisite effort - catching out Owls keeper Keiren Westwood at his near-post before rifling an arrowed effort past him.

It was a second goal of the campaign for Thompson after his late effort in last months defeat at Nottingham Forest, although this performance was far more than about a potential fluky effort.

Here's how The Den faithful reacted on Twitter to the midfielder's display against the Owls:
