The last decade has seen Nottingham Forest fail to escape the clutches of the Sky Bet Championship.

The Reds have been there or thereabouts in the hunt for promotion in a few of their last 10 seasons, and came agonisingly close to finishing in the play-offs last term.

This season has obviously been a disappointing one, but Chris Hughton will be hoping to see his side end the season strongly and go again next season.

Naturally, Forest have had many players represent them over the last 10 years, and in all honesty, the amount who have flattered to deceive is much higher than the amount who have gone on to become heroes.

Here, we take a look at the dream Forest XI from the last decade. Who should have made the team and who shouldn't have made the team?

Have a browse...

It's a tough one to start with, as Forest have had many talented goalkeepers on the books in the last 10 years. Karl Darlow, Lee Camp and Dorus de Vries to name just a few.

But Brice Samba has undoubtedly made a huge impact since joining the club last season, and was named in the PFA Team of the Year for the Championship in 2019/20.

He has kept Forest in plenty of games when the chips have been down this season, and his performances have really been woeful.

He is undoubtedly one of the first names on the teamsheet, and fans will be hoping that they can see more of him in years to come.

Matty Cash made an extraordinary impact last season.

Cash was seen as a natural winger right up until the latter stages of pre-season in 2019/20, where an injury to Tendayi Darikwa saw him be converted into a right-back.

But he enjoyed a standout season under Sabri Lamouchi, establishing himself as the division's best right-back before sealing a £16million move to Aston Villa in the summer.

Cash does not look out of place at all in the Premier League and is certainly one to watch in years to come.

It remains to be seen how long it takes before Gareth Southgate took a look at him for the England team.

Morgan wasn't at his best towards the 2011 mark for Forest, and to be honest, the Reds saw him at his best in around 2008 and 2009.

But the central defender certainly deserves a mention in this side given the impact he had at Forest and what he has gone on to achieve since.

Morgan guided Leicester City to a remarkable Premier League title in 2016, captaining the Foxes to their greatest ever season.

He is a leader and a proper professional who Forest fans were lucky to see wear the Garibaldi.

Fans will never forget his strike against Notts County in the League Cup in 2011.

Jamaal Lascelles can feel hard done by here, but the impact Worrall has made at the City Ground is greater.

Worrall has gone from strength to strength since spending a year on loan at Rangers. He was an ever-present as Forest narrowly missed out on a top-six finish last term, and his performances were excellent.

This season, he has pulled on the captain's armband on a number of occasions in Lewis Grabban's absence, and has been a leader in what has been a tough season for the Reds.

Forest fans will wince at the thought of the phone ringing this summer, with plenty of interest anticipated in the centre-half.

This is a tough one, simply because Forest haven't had too many left-backs who have set the world alight in the last 10 years.

Yuri Ribeiro was fantastic under Sabri Lamouchi last season, but has failed to replicate that form under Chris Hughton this term.

Ribeiro replaced Jack Robinson, who was excellent under Aitor Karanka but eventually lost his place in the team.

Ryan Bertrand did have a brief loan spell at the City Ground in 2011, though, and given the form he displayed for the Reds, as well as what he has gone on to achieve, he takes the shirt here.

Antonio was a fantastic player for Forest after arriving from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2014.

He scored 14 goals and produced as many assists in his first season at the City Ground, before West Ham came knocking for his signature the following campaign.

He's now a key player for West Ham United under David Moyes, scoring seven goals in the Premier League this season.

He's now a striker, but his pace and power out wide made him one of the most effective wingers Forest have had over the last few years.

McGugan was influential for Forest during his time at the club.

The 32-year-old's best season came in 2010/11, where he scored 13 goals and registered 15 assists as Forest missed out on promotion via the play-offs.

His creativity and goal threat from midfield was such a key asset for the Reds, before leaving for Watford in 2013/14.

He deserves his place in this side.

What can you say about this man?

Cohen was a fans' favourite at the City Ground and remains an adored figure on Trentside after wearing his heart on his sleeve for the Reds.

The 34-year-old was hampered by injuries during his time at Forest, but he made over 300 appearances for the club.

Cohen started off at left-back but later moved into midfield as his experience proved massive.

He scored a vital goal in a win over Ipswich in 2017 - a goal which ensured that Forest would stay in the Championship under Mark Warburton.

Reid is currently overseeing the next generation of talent come through the ranks at the Nigel Doughty Academy as Under-23s' manager.

The Irishman was a superb player for the Reds, though, with the midfielder having two spells at Forest.

Reid had 15 goal contributions in 2012/13, and the following season, he bettered that by contributing to 22 goals in the Championship.

His left foot was magic, and even when he was getting older, he never seemed to show signs of slowing down.

Love him or loathe him, Lewis Grabban deserves a lot of credit.

The striker may be struggling for goals this season, but he has scored 40 goals in 108 games for the Reds which is still a pretty impressive record.

Last season, without his 20 goals - the first player to hit that milestone in nearly 18 years - Forest wouldn't have finished anywhere near the play-offs.

He is a proven forward at thsi level, and when he's at his best, you will struggle to find a more potent goalscorer.

Forest have had some decent strikers in the last decade, and Robbie Earnshaw may feel hard done by not to feature in this team.

But Earnshaw's best form for Forest came before 2011, so due to the timing of his departure, we have left him off here.

Injuries proved to be detrimental for Britt Assombalonga during his time at the City Ground, but the striker certainly gave Forest fans a lot to cheer about.

The forward scored 30 goals in 69 appearances for Forest, and if he hadn't been so injury prone, then he could have stayed for much longer.
