Carlos Carvalhal will return to Hillsborough to face his former club Sheffield Wednesday later this month after his new team Swansea City thrashed League Two Notts County 8-1 last night.

The Portuguese manager has enjoyed an impressive start to his tenure at the Liberty Stadium, which continued when despite making changes to his starting eleven, his side strolled into the fifth round of the FA Cup to set up the tasty encounter on February 17.

He oversaw runs to the play-offs in his two full seasons at Wednesday but things turned very stale towards the end and he paid with his job in December.

It remains to be seen what kind of reception Carvalhal will get on his return to Hillsborough but he has spoken to the Yorkshire Post and revealed his point of view.

He said: "I feel that I will be back home. I was very happy there, my second season was the best rating of points in the last 50 years, and we also had the third best record of points in the club’s history.

"We achieved two play-offs, one final and one semi-final - something very strong in my opinion. I do not have anything to prove, in fact the exact opposite.

"I have a fantastic relationship with the chairman and I will give him a big hug. Some people were not happy but when they put emotion aside they know we gave everything to the club."

The Verdict

I suppose it is easy for Carvalhal to be upbeat now that he has moved on from Sheffield Wednesday and is flourishing in the Premier League.

However, I'd be surprised if he doesn't feel he has a point to prove and he will be desperate to take his new team back to Wednesday and get the win.
