The Sheffield Telegraph understands Carlos Carvalhal is hopeful Glenn Loovens will recover from a minor injury to feature for Sheffield Wednesday over the Easter period.

Loovens picked up a minor injury in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle United and had to be replaced at half-time.

Carvalhal revealed why Loovens was removed, he said: “Glenn felt an old pain in his abductor. He felt it a little more in the warm-up but he’s a fantastic professional and captain and played the first half.

“He couldn’t do more so we put Vincent Sasso on. Sasso trained very well and we had a lot of confidence him.”

The 51-year old his hopeful his captain will return for the Easter period, as Wednesday look to extend their two-point lead over seventh-placed Fulham and solidify their place in the top-six.

Saturday’s victory over Newcastle maintained Wednesday’s position in the top-six and also sent out a message to their Sky Bet Championship rivals, that they were looking dangerous ahead of the run-in.

Wednesday have been boosted by the return to fitness of Ross Wallace, Tom Lees and Gary Hooper in recent weeks and Carvalhal now has Fernando Forestieri, who was an unused substitute against Newcastle, available after injury.
