Carlos Carvalhal is the Sky Bet Championship’s most under pressure manager at the current time, with four defeats in five fixtures leading to many Sheffield Wednesday fans calling for the Portuguese boss to be sacked.

The Owls currently sit 16th in the Championship table on just 16 points, which leaves them six points behind the division’s top-six heading into this weekend’s fixtures. Carvalhal’s side return to Hillsborough on Saturday lunchtime for a clash with Barnsley, where they will be looking to end a miserable run of form and lift some of the mounting pressure on their manager.

Here at FLW, we take a look at the changes Carvalhal needs to make ahead of that clash with Barnsley on Saturday lunchtime. The Owls will be forced into one change in defence, with Glenn Loovens suspended following his dismissal in last Saturday’s defeat at Derby County.

Joost van Aken is the obvious candidate to replace Loovens in central defence alongside Tom Lees.

That would be the only change in defence we would make, but further forward, we believe it is time for a switch in system from Carvalhal, with Steven Fletcher dropping out of the starting XI and £900k-rated David Jones coming in.

That change will see Carvalhal ditch his favoured 4-4-2 formation, in favour of a 4-5-1, which will leave Gary Hooper as the lone striker.

Adam Reach and Ross Wallace will be tasked with supporting the striker from out wide, whilst Barry Bannan will be given a license to push forward into a number 10 roll, with Kieran Lee and Jones providing cover in midfield.
