It's going to be a big weekend for Sheffield Wednesday as they once again look to build some momentum and get seriously involved in the top six race.

The men from Hillsborough are clearly good enough to get into the top six but they need to add some more consistency with them beating Leeds and losing to Bolton in their last two games. The pressure on Carlos Carvalhal, meanwhile, ramped up after the defeat to the Trotters and so he and his players must try and turn it around with them facing a big fixture with Derby County this weekend.

Lose that, and Carvalhal will be really under the grill but he has taken the opportunity in his pre-match press-conference to demand that his players step things up and get more consistent. As quoted by the Owls' official Twitter account, he said:

Certainly, then, it remains to be seen how the players respond but they do seem like the kind of group willing to work for their manager and so there should be a good reaction. Derby are on a high after beating Nottingham Forest last weekend, though, and so they will certainly be a tough nut to crack at Pride Park.

The Verdict

There's pressure on Carvalhal but he would say that he has always felt some since arriving at Hillsborough and so he can deal with it.

The players need to deal with it, too, and though they are not far off of the top six right now if this form does not turn around ASAP they could soon be cut adrift.
