Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Carlos Carvalhal has insisted that Sheffield Wednesday will not be selling any of their key players this summer, despite interest from around the country.

Keiren Westwood is in demand this summer, with Middlesbrough tabling a £4.5m bid for the Irish goalkeeper, who has been magnificent at Hillsborough over the last three seasons.

Tom Lees and Liam Palmer have also been linked with possible moves away from Sheffield, but Carvalhal is insistent that Wednesday will keep hold of their key men, as they look to end the club’s long wait for a Premier League return, he said:

“If any club asks for a player from our club, it is not in my hands. But what I know is we are not planning on selling players.

“I have said to the chairman 'don’t sell any players' since I have arrived at Sheffield Wednesday.”

Wednesday suffered play-off heartache for the second successive year during the 2016/17 campaign, as Carvalhal’s men were beaten on penalties by Huddersfield Town in the play-off semi-final.

The Owls’ time outside the top-flight has now stretched into an 18th season, and Carvalhal has made just one addition to his squad this summer, brining George Boyd to Hillsborough from Burnley.

Next on the agenda for Wednesday is strengthening their defence, with Carvalhal revealing he is aiming to sign two central defenders.
