Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal is confident his side will be ready for Friday’s clash with Reading, reports the club’s official website.

Carvalhal’s side welcome Reading to Hillsborough for a clash between two of the Sky Bet Championship’s Play-Off contenders.

Last weekend’s defeat to Aston Villa, left Wednesday looking nervously over their shoulder, as Fulham close in on the top-six, and sit just one-point behind Carvalhal’s side with nine fixtures of the season remaining.

Speaking ahead of a massive game on Friday evening, Carvalhal admitted he is expecting a response from his side following the Villa defeat, he said: “It’s a massive game to us, our players will react because we are not happy after the last game.

“But we will react very fast.

“We don’t want excuses, on Friday we will be strong. We are still running in the competition to achieve a good position.”

Wednesday have recorded just one victory in their last five outings, a run of form, which quashed all hope of Carvalhal’s side competing for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

With one of Reading or Wednesday destined to drop points on Friday night, victory for Fulham over Wolves on Saturday will see them move into the top-six.
