Carlos Carvalhal has admitted his Sheffield Wednesday side have “three finals” remaining in the Sky Bet Championship this season, as they look to secure a place in the Play-Offs for the second successive year, reports the Sheffield Star.
Wednesday strengthened their hold on a top-six place on Easter Monday by recording a 2-1 victory over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road, which combined with Leeds United’s defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, saw the Owls move to fifth in the table.
Carvalhal’s side now hold a two-point lead over seventh-placed Leeds, but the 51-year old encouraged Wednesday not to look too far ahead, he said: “We are in a hard competition for the play-offs.
“The competition is more hard than last season so we focus on the Derby game.
“We have three finals left and we must focus on each game.”
Despite their lead over Leeds, the Owls cannot afford to become complacent with difficult fixtures against Derby County and Ipswich Town coming up, before a clash with sixth-placed Fulham on the final day of the season.
Fulham’s visit to Hillsborough could decide which of the two clubs qualify for the Play-Offs, with Leeds remaining hopeful of capitalising on any dropped points.
