Watford will be aiming to provide their supporters with something to shout about at Vicarage Road on Monday when they take on Sheffield United in the Championship.

Following a dismal 2021/22 campaign which culminated in relegation from the Premier League, it will be interesting to see whether the Hornets will be able to make a positive start to the new term under the guidance of head coach Rob Edwards.

Edwards has managed to bolster his squad this summer by securing the services of three players.

Vakoun Bayo, Ben Hamer and Rey Manaj will all be in contention to feature for Watford in their showdown with Paul Heckingbottom's side.

The Blades have also made some signings in the current transfer window.

Anel Ahmedhodzic, Tommy Doyle, Ciaran Clark and Reda Khadra are set to line up for United in the upcoming campaign after sealing moves to Bramall Lane.

With both sides looking to achieve a great deal of success in the Championship, Monday's meeting could turn out to be an enthralling affair.

Ahead of this game, former England international Carlton Palmer has predicted that Watford will secure a 1-0 victory over the Blades.

Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said: "It's been a mixed bag for Sheffield United this summer.

"With the owners and everything, they've not been able to do a lot of business but they have done well under Heckingbottom who has done a really good job, him and Stuart McCall.

"You'd expect Watford to be looking to bounce back this season so I'm going for Watford to win that 1-0."

The Verdict

Watford's supporters will be hoping that this particular prediction turns out to be correct as their side are set to face a tough test on Monday.

The Blades only narrowly missed out on a place in the play-off final earlier this year as they suffered defeat to Nottingham Forest on penalties in the semi-finals of the play-offs.

Whereas Heckingbottom is no longer able to turn to Morgan Gibbs-White for inspiration, he does have some players at his disposal that could cause issues for Watford in this fixture.

The Hornets will be hoping that the likes of Joao Pedro and Emmanuel Dennis will be able to step up to the mark next week.

Pedro managed to provide 12 direct goal contributions at this level in the 2020/21 campaign whilst Dennis scored 10 goals for Watford in the Premier League last season.
