Carlton Palmer issues score prediction for Huddersfield Town’s clash with Burnley on Friday night

Huddersfield Town will be aiming to make the perfect start to life under the guidance of their new head coach Danny Schofield on Friday when they face Burnley at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Since suffering defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Championship play-off final, the Terriers have waved goodbye to Lewis O’Brien and Harry Toffolo who both sealed moves to the City Ground earlier this month.

Carlos Corberan has also parted ways with Huddersfield after leading the club to a third-place finish in the second-tier standings last season.

In terms of incomings, Huddersfield have managed to secure the services of some fresh faces ahead of the new term.

Jack Rudoni, Yuta Nakayama, Connor Mahoney and David Kasumu will be aiming to make a positive impression for the Terriers after sealing permanent moves to the club.

Huddersfield have also re-signed Tino Anjorin and Will Boyle in the current transfer window.

Set to face a Burnley side who will be determined to achieve a great deal of success under the guidance of Vincent Kompany, it will be interesting to see how the Terriers will fare in this upcoming clash.

Ahead of Friday’s game, Carson Palmer has admitted that he believes that Huddersfield will secure a 1-0 victory over the Clarets.

Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said: “Huddersfield obviously got to the play-off final last season and lost out narrowly to Nottingham Forest.

“It was a big concern what would happen during the close season but they’ve managed to keep hold of the squad together, so they obviously have to be favourites in this game.

“Burnley have had to make a lot of changes.

“I think he’s done a good job, Vincent Kompany, he’s brought in a lot of young players for the future, players who haven’t played at this level.

“Huddersfield being at home, you’d have to say they have to be the favourites just on that basis.

“I’m intrigued to see how Burnley go with the players that they have brought in but as I said, the Championship is a tough league.

“So, I’m going for a narrow 1-0 Huddersfield win.”

The Verdict

Whereas losing O’Brien and Toffolo ahead of the new campaign was a blow for Huddersfield, there is no reason why they cannot secure a positive result against Burnley with the players that they still have at their disposal.

In order to have the best chance of securing all three points in this fixture, the Terriers will need Sorba Thomas and Danny Ward to be firing on all cylinders.

Ward managed to find the back of the net on 14 occasions in the Championship last season whilst Thomas’ abundance of creativity resulted in him being directly involved in 16 goals at this level.

Providing that Huddersfield do go on to defeat Burnley on Friday, they could use the confidence gained from this triumph to their advantage in their upcoming league fixtures.
