Crystal Palace have confirmed the arrival of exciting Derby County winger Malcolm Ebiowei, with the 18-year-old penning down a five-year deal at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles managed to beat Manchester United to his signature, with the teenager, with the Red Devils showing strong interest in the former Rangers winger.

Spending time in the academies at Arsenal and Chelsea, Ebiowei headed to Rangers in 2020, before being snapped up by the Rams a year later.

Sharing his thoughts on Palace winning the race for the young winger and whether the South London club is the next best step for his development, Carlton Palmer told Football League World: "Yeah, I think so.

"I think that Palace, they've made that clear, that's where the route that they want to go with the young players.

"Under Patrick Vieira, I think that's the right route for him."

The verdict

Crystal Palace is growing as an increasingly favourable destination for young players to develop, with Vieira proving to be an excellent influence on young players.

Also, there is a clearer pathway to regular first-team football at Selhurst Park, something that is another major point of attraction for young players who are trying to cut it at Premier League level.

Playing fairly regularly in the Championship last time out, it remains to be seen what the immediate future holds for the 18-year-old, and whether a temporary spell away from the club could be deemed the next best step.

An exciting talent, who gained an invaluable experience in the second-tier last time out, Vieira could quite easily opt to keep Ebiowei close to the first team.
