Burnley are currently trying to secure the signing of Coventry City midfielder Callum O'Hare, as per a report from journalist Alan Nixon.

The exciting, attacking midfielder, who netted five times and provided a further eights assists last time out, is part of a trio who could generate the Sky Blues a handsome enough fee this summer.

However, Mark Robins has stated that Coventry are not in a position where they need to part company with their most saleable assets, in conversation with Coventry Live.

Burnley are evidently switching their approach, with Kompany looking to assemble a more youthful squad ahead of the new campaign.

Speaking to Football League World about Burnley's interest in the midfielder, Carlton Palmer said: "Coventry have got some terrific young players and there's always going to be a problem when you've got good young players, because top teams are going to come looking at them.

"It's not just him, there's a host of players that have been looked at by other clubs.

"You've seen what Kopany's doing, they want to get promoted next year. But, if you look, they're signing all young players, good young players."

The verdict

It is an interesting situation developing here because Coventry will view Burnley as a rival who will be striving for a similar objective, something that will hinder the Clarets' pursuit.

Naturally, Coventry would look to bump up the price if they are selling to a competitor next season, with the same thing applied if top Championship clubs strengthen interest in Gus Hamer and Viktor Gyokeres.

Kompany has made an excellent start to the summer transfer window, adding real quality and reducing the average age of the squad in doing so.

However, this appears to be a deal that will be too difficult for the Clarets to complete.
