After a quiet summer transfer window, Championship club Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed the signing of Dutch defender Joost van Aken.

The club, who revealed the signing on their official website, signed for an undisclosed fee from Eredivisie club Heerenveen.

Van Aken becomes only the fourth summer signing for Carlos Carvalhal’s side and has been given the number four shirt for the club who currently sit 16th in the Championship.

Standing at a towering 6’3”, the 23-year-old will face competition from the likes of Tom Lees, fellow Dutchman Glenn Loovens, and Daniel Pudil for a place in the Owls’ first team.

Wednesday also announced the signing on their official Twitter account which paved the way for the club’s fans to discuss their latest signing.
