West Bromwich Albion head coach Carlos Corberan has revealed that Daryl Dike emerged unscathed from the club's Under-21 clash with Nottingham Forest earlier this week and could train alongside his team-mates today.

Since sealing a switch to The Hawthorns, the forward has missed a considerable chunk of action due to injury.

Dike sustained an issue with his hamstring during West Brom's meeting with Peterborough United in January and later picked up a knee injury which ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

After featuring in Albion's draw with Middlesbrough on the opening weekend of the current term, Dike injured his thigh in training and has yet to make a return to action at senior level.

The United States international stepped up his road to recovery by playing 45 minutes in the Premier League 2 Division 2 on Monday against Forest and scored a penalty as the Baggies suffered a 5-1 defeat.

West Brom will be looking to back up their recent victories over Blackpool and Queens Park Rangers by securing a positive result in their clash with Stoke City tomorrow.

Ahead of this fixture, Corberan has issued an update on Dike.

Speaking to BBC Radio WM (as cited by BBC Sport) about the forward, the Albion boss said: "He has had a good reaction after the game [on] Monday, in terms of his physicality, and we will see on Friday if he can train, or if we understand that it's better if we keep his levels.

Corberan later added: "He's one player we are going to manage well, however we can.

"It will allow us to increase his performance, especially his physical performance, without putting at risk his continuity and avoiding any kind of injury."

The Verdict

This is a sensible approach to take regarding Dike as the last thing that West Brom will want to see is the forward suffering yet another injury setback.

Whereas it remains to be seen whether Dike will be included in the Baggies' match-day squad for their meeting with Stoke, he will certainly be deployed as a substitute if he is deemed fit enough to feature as Corberan clearly wants to ease him into action.

Although it will take the 22-year-old some time to get back up to speed, there is no reason why he cannot eventually make a positive impact for Albion in the Championship.

During his career to date, the forward has managed to demonstrate that he is capable of competing at this level as he has scored a respectable total of nine goals in 22 second-tier appearances.
