Huddersfield Town manager Carlos Corberan says he fears defender Richard Stearman is facing weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury suffered in his side's 3-2 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Stearman was withdrawn half an hour into the win at the John Smith's Stadium, having signalled to the bench immediately after landing awkwardly while going for a sliding challenge.

Now it seems as though Corberan is bracing himself for the prospect of having to cope without the 33-year-old for an extended spell of action.

Speaking after the game about the injury concern around Stearman, the Spaniard was quoted by The Yorkshire Evening Post as saying: "He felt something in his hamstring. For any player to ask for a change it is because they have an injury. I expect to not have him in the coming weeks."

Stearman has been a regular for Huddersfield this season up until now, starting 12 of the 14 league games they have played so far this season.

Following that win, the Terriers sit 13th in the Championship table, and are next in action when they travel to Wales to face Cardiff City on Tuesday night.

The Verdict

This will no doubt be something of a blow for Huddersfield.

With so many games coming up over the next few weeks, they will no doubt have wanted as many players available as possible in order to rotate and cope with the demands of such a busy schedule.

It now looks to be unlikely that Stearman will be unable to contribute to that, and his experience could well be a miss going forward.

However, with Rarmani Edmonds-Green coping well when replacing Stearman, this could at least provide an opportunity for the young centre back to prove his worth and establish himself as a reliable option for Carlos Corberan's side.
