Sheffield Wednesday have had an excellent season this time round, in what has probably been their finest footballing year for the last two decades.

The squad is awash with talent at the moment, and Portuguese manager Carlos Carvalhal has got the team playing some of the finest football seen down at S6 in a long long time.

Part of the success this season has been the depth in squad I just mentioned, with Carvalhal able to rotate his players and get them to fit seamlessly into his system.

As the season draws to a close though and all the new signings have had nearly a full year to get used to life with the Owls, the manager now will have a pretty good idea of who his first team will be and who he wants to build around for next season.

With this in mind, we have taken a look at the players Carvalhal should ensure start every game for the Owls from now on.

Here, in the opinion of FLW writer Lee Connor, are THREE players Sheffield Wednesday should always start with from now on....

Barry Bannan

The little midfield maestro is already a regular fixture in the first team at Hillsborough, and this must remain if the Owls are to be successful heading into a likely play-off campaign.

Bannan has impressed immensely with his energetic and full on displays across a variety of positions in midfield, becoming a key man in the promotion charge for the Owls this term.

Carvalhal knows he has a player on his hands in Bannan, with the Owls fans loving him as well. Bannan must remain in the team at all times and maybe, just maybe, Wednesday could find themselves back in the Premier League next season.

Fernando Forestieri

Fernando Forestieri3

Despite having a wealth of attacking options at his disposal, manager Carvalhal simply must keep Forestieri in his team.

The creative little Italian has been influential on the team all season long, and is the top scorer at the club with 13 goals this term.

When he hasn't played, the Owls have struggled for creativity in the final third, often falling short and failing to find the net in his absence.

With Gary Hooper, Adthe Nuhiu, and Lucas Joao all in competition for a place up top, it is vital Forestieri plays every game during the final run in to try and fire the Owls to Wembley and a chance at promotion.

Tom Lees

After missing a small part of the season through injury, Lees is back in the Owls line up and looking just as solid as ever alongside Glen Loovens at the back.

Lees is a class act for Wednesday, and has really found his feet following a move from Leeds United off the back of a difficult spell with the Elland Road club.

If the Owls are to keep it solid, Lees needs to be in the team. They have done well at the back in the main all season long, and with Lees in the team, they stand an excellent chance of being resolute enough to not only make it into the play offs, but find a way of winning the end of season shootout.
