Speaking to Sheffield Wednesday’s official media, Carlos Carvalhal has congratulated city rivals Sheffield United, on their promotion to the Sky Bet Championship.

Chris Wilder’s Blades have romped to promotion and the League One title in recent weeks, and with just two fixtures of their season remaining, are already celebrating their second-tier return.

Before previewing Wednesday’s clash with Derby County on Saturday, Carvalhal congratulated United, he said: “I would also like to congratulate Sheffield United on their promotion. Football is growing up in this region and that is positive.”

The Blades haven’t competed in the Championship since 2011, and next season will see the Steel-City derby take place, should Wednesday fail in their bid for promotion to the Premier League.

Whilst Wilder’s side are celebrating their success, Wednesday are heading for a Play-Off campaign in May.

Carvalhal’s side are currently fifth in the Championship table, two-points clear of seventh-placed Leeds United, with three fixtures of the season remaining.
