Carlos Carvalhal has handed Sheffield Wednesday a major boost in their quest for the Play-Offs, by confirming he is expecting Fernando Forestieri to return to fitness following the international break, reports the Sheffield Star.

Wednesday are next in action against Barnsley, in just under two weeks time, and Carvalhal is expecting Forestieri to return, along with Ross Wallace, Gary Hooper and Sam Hutchinson.

Forestieri has missed Wednesday’s last two fixtures, as they have suffered back-to-back defeats against Aston Villa and Reading.

Failure to win either game has seen Wednesday miss out on a chance to extend their two-point lead over seventh placed Fulham, and solidify their place in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs.

Speaking about who he could welcome back after the international break, Carvalhal said: “We have wishes that we can recover in these two weeks Sam, Gary Hooper, I think we can probably recover Fernando and Ross Wallace also. I think we can recover a minimum of four players.

“It is very good to us is the international break with the problems we have in the team and with the injuries.

“It will be a very good time to us. We will recover players to be more strong.

“We believe in this international break we will recover some players who are injured and we will be ready for the final eight games to try and achieve a good position.”

Carvalhal’s side have picked up just one victory in their last six outings, and are looking over their shoulders as Fulham look to break into the Championship Play-Off zone.
