There could be a tug-of-war taking place in the winter window for the services of Josh McPake, as reported by The Daily Record.
The player is currently on loan in League One with Morecambe and whilst he has looked bright and has impressed in previous EFL loans, the 20-year-old has been sidelined through injuries during his stint in England this campaign.
It means the player may end up being recalled by Rangers but, rather than kept on by the SPL side and given a crack in Scotland, it looks like the club may send him out on another short-term deal.
Quiz: What club did Hartlepool United sign each of these 29 players from?
That’s put a number of League Two sides on high alert, as they all look to secure the services of the talented winger for the second half of the campaign. One side keen to do business is Carlisle, who could use his experience in the fourth tier so far and his creativeness in a bid to help them push on up the table.
Another interested side is Hartlepool, who are keen to try and kick on again this season after being promoted back into the Football League and try and secure yet another promotion into League One.
They aren’t the only clubs keen, with several others in the league keeping tabs on the situation to boot. It means that McPake is in high demand and the player and his parent club will have some thinking to do in terms of where to send him when the window opens.
The SPL side will no doubt be happy to see him getting some valuable experience elsewhere – and the interested parties will be desperate to sign him and ensure that it comes with them.
Josh McPake is a talented player with the potential to be quite an impressive player, at least at this level.
He was a regular feature for Harrogate and shined for them as they looked bright last year. That is what prompted Morecambe to make the move for him this season and he would likely have made a greater impression there too if not for injury.
Morecambe’s loss though is everyone else’s gain. It means that he is up for grabs again and could certainly play a big part in one of the interested parties campaigns once he has returned to match fitness.
McPake is a creative player, with the capability to score goals as well. It makes him a valuable asset to have and he could be a huge boost to Carlisle if they can wrap up his signature in the winter window.
Rangers and the player then should certainly have a busy winter window ahead of them.
