Cardiff City won promotion to the Premier League by clinching the second automatic spot ahead of Fulham.

On the final day of the season, Cardiff needed to better Fulham's result to ensure that they finished second in the Championship and went up.

In what promised to be a tense afternoon, Birmingham City comprehensively beat Fulham to make sure that Cardiff's result against Reading was irrelevant.

Cardiff drew 0-0 with the Royals, meaning a Fulham win would have seen Neil Warnock's side finish third, but Birmingham did the Bluebirds a major favour.

Warnock has already spoken of his desire to strengthen his squad and ensure they stay up, although they will be comforted by the fact that Newcastle United and Brighton have already secured survival and Huddersfield Town look like they might stay up too.

He wants at least five or six new additions this summer to bolster his squad.

Here are four realistic signings Warnock should be targeting.

Neil Etheridge has been quite good for Cardiff in goal but they could definitely do with upgrading in that department.

If Aston Villa do not go up, Sam Johnstone is unlikely to return to Villa Park and Cardiff should try to poach the Manchester United man.

The 25-year-old has already established himself as one of the best goalkeepers outside of the Premier League and now he needs to test himself in the top flight.

Cardiff are solid at the back but could do with adding some full-backs to their squad.

Ryan Fredericks would be the ideal pick as he becomes a free agent in the summer and his pace can give Warnock a different option at right-back.

The 25-year-old was named in both the EFL and PFA Championship Team of the Year and if he is unlikely to sign a new contract with Fulham if they do not go up via the play-offs, the Bluebirds should swoop.

Cardiff need a new striker this summer to add competition for places with Kenneth Zohore and Gary Madine.

Rodriguez would be a decent acquisition and he is likely to force a move to the Premier League if West Brom are relegated.

The 28-year-old is experienced, versatile and always gives 100 per cent, making him an ideal type of player for a Neil Warnock side.

Wilson has had an incredible loan spell in the Championship with Hull in the latter part of this season.

The 21-year-old scored seven goals and grabbed three assists from the wing in 11 starts for the Tigers.

But with his path to Liverpool's first-team blocked by the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana, the Wales international could be a shrewd addition for Cardiff on loan or even permanently.
