Cardiff City will turn their attentions to Jordan Rhodes if their loan offer for Connor Wickham fails, reports journalist Alan Nixon.

Crystal Palace striker Wickham has been the subject of transfer rumours all week, with Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff leading the race to sign on-loan until the end of the season.

Respected sports journalist Alan Nixon has tweeted that Wickham will have the final say on his future, and that Cardiff will make a loan move for Wednesday's Rhodes if Wickham chooses to go the other way.

Cardiff's transfer window has been a painful one for fans. They were expecting big things from Neil Harris in his first transfer window as Cardiff boss but instead they've had a subdued one, and no signings have yet walked through the doors.

Rhodes though has been linked with a loan move to several clubs this window. It looked likely that he'd join Championship strugglers Wigan Athletic at one point, but that move has since quietened down.

Rhodes is one of the league's most recognised goal-scorers but his time at Hillsborough hasn't gone to plan, and he's found himself the subject of loan-deals for the past few seasons.

The verdict

Cardiff fans would love to see Rhodes come through the door. Whether or not Cardiff need another striker is a different matter, but Rhodes is proven at this level, and could be the man to ensure a top-half finish for the Bluebirds and for Harris in his first season in charge.
