Neil Warnock is hoping for a busy deadline day at Cardiff City and the Welsh side have had a £2m bid rejected for Marley Watkins.

The Norwich City man has been subject of strong interest from Bristol City in recent weeks and the Robins were believed to have had a £1m bid turned down from the Canaries.

And, Norwich have stood firm to reject double that from promotion rivals Cardiff according to Phil Cadden of The Sun. He also added that Norwich would not be selling the attacker before the deadline.

That may come as a surprise to both the player and Norwich fans, as Watkins has struggled to make an impact at Carrow Road since arriving in the summer from Barnsley.

The 27-year old has made 19 appearances so far this season, although many have them as a sub, but has failed to score in the league.

What’s more, Daniel Farke publicly questioned the performances of Watkins earlier in the month, whilst adding that his attitude and work rate in training must improve.

The Verdict

It’s very strange that Norwich haven’t accepted this bid as £2m on a player that joined for free in the summer and isn’t a key member of the squad seems great business.

As well as that, he clearly hasn’t impressed Farke and it’s hard to see how Watkins gets into the Norwich team regularly for the remainder of the season.

Whether it’s a ploy to get more money out of Cardiff remains to be seen but it’s hard to imagine a deal will get done now.
