Cardiff City have opened talks with Bournemouth over the possible signing of Lewis Grabban, according to The Bournemouth Echo.

Lewis Grabban has been made available for transfer this month, sparking a major battle for his signature among the top performing Championship clubs.

Six Championship clubs are said to be interested in the 29-year-old but Cardiff are keen on stealing a march on their rivals.

They will battle Bristol City, Fulham, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and Wolves for Grabban's services this month so they have begun negotiations to move ahead of their competitors and wrap this deal up.

Grabban is hot property after impressing for struggling Sunderland in the first half of the season.

The former Norwich City man struck 12 goals in 20 games for the Black Cats but told them that he no longer wished to play for them, leaving the Wearside club rooted to the bottom of the Championship table.

Sunderland came to an agreement with the Cherries to allow their leading marksman to terminate his loan deal early.

Bournemouth are willing to let Grabban leave the club this summer but they would rather he was sold on a permanent basis rather than loaning him back out.

The Verdict

Cardiff City need a striker and Grabban has already proven that he can find the net this season. With some better service, he could be the goal scorer that Neil Warnock has been chasing ever since he has taken the Cardiff job. But Grabban has always dipped in and out of form throughout his career so he does not necessarily guarantee goals for the second half of the season.
