Cardiff City produced an impressive comeback during Neil Harris' first match as head coach to secure a 2-2 draw with Charlton at The Valley on Saturday afternoon.

The Bluebirds fell behind following goals from Charlton duo Conor Gallagher and Jonathan Leko, but Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Lee Tomlin were then both on target after the interval to ensure the points were shared.

This means Cardiff fans will be feeling positive after avoiding defeat during Harris' first game since his appointment, while the nature of their second-half fight-back should be particularly pleasing given the nature of their first-half showing.

The Welsh side produced a lacklustre display inside the first half as they allowed the Addicks to take a two-goal lead, but there was much more determination and tactical awareness associated with their display after the interval.

Harris' side looked much more composed during the second period, as they immediately created a good chance to take the lead when Callum Paterson won a penalty which Junior Hoilett missed, but they eventually levelled the scores later in the match.

The Cardiff boss made some tactical adjustments at the interval which allowed his side to gain a foothold in the game, while he clearly must have produced a half-time team talk to motivate his players towards achieving the point.

The nature of Cardiff's comeback will definitely be an encouraging sign for supporters who may have doubted whether Harris is the right man for job, as he showed excellent match awareness to help his side avoid defeat.

Harris can also be credited with making effective substitutions at the right time, with his decision to introduce Tomlin in the 67th minute benefitting the Bluebirds just six minutes later when he was on hand to net the equalising goal to make it 2-2.

The fact there were definitely more positives than negatives at the final whistle for Cardiff can only be a good sign, while Harris would have learned plenty about his players during his first match at the helm

He will now be hoping his squad can pick up where they left off on Saturday when they welcome Stoke to the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday evening.
