It was confirmed yesterday that striker Omar Bogle has signed for Championship outfit Cardiff City on a three-year deal from Wigan Athletic.

Latics boss Paul Cook had been looking to offload the player all summer and Bluebirds chief Neil Warnock has swooped to provide cover for undoubted first choice striker Kenneth Zohore.

However, while the arrival of a player who was prolific for Grimsby Town, in the first half of last season, might cause excitement - nothing gets fans going like the arrival of a player who knows where the net is - Cardiff fans would be wise to temper their expectations for Bogle, quite considerably.

Bogle is undoubtedly going to be second choice to Zohore, who looks to be adding his all-round game to his prolific finishing, to become a really key man for the Bluebirds and is rightly attracting attention across the country.

The 25-year-old was prolific two leagues below the second tier, but was unable to made a serious impact in the Championship, with his limited all round game and inexperience at such a high level leading to him being fairly easy to handle.

Admittedly, Wigan struggled as a team, but as a goalscorer, given 14 league appearances in the Championship, he only netted three times and the fact that Cook feels he is dispensible, even as he moves down a league, is pretty indicative of Bogle's true level.
