Cardiff City are confident of securing a deal for Bordeaux winger Younousse Sankhare before the 5pm deadline this evening.

The 29-year-old had been linked with the Bluebirds, as well as Sheffield United and Swansea, in the summer and TEAMtalk have revealed that talks are at an advanced stage and have progressed well.

Therefore, confirmation should come later on today and he will be a welcome addition for Neil Warnock who has been desperate to add more options to his squad as he looks to build a side capable of winning promotion.

Sankhare struggled somewhat in Ligue 1 last season, featuring in just 22 games and he managed just one goal, which came on the final day of the campaign.

However, the PSG academy graduate impressed in the 2017/18 season, scoring seven goals from out wide and the Bluebirds will hope he can rediscover that form in Wales providing the move goes through.

Whilst no fee has been mentioned, reports last month suggested that Les Girondins wanted around £4.5m for the player, who still has two years left on his contract with the French outfit.

The Verdict

This is good news for Cardiff as Sankhare has spent most of his career in the French top-flight so he will be arriving with a good pedigree.

He is a powerful player and he also boasts good technical ability, but the challenge for Warnock will be to get the player performing on a consistent basis.

But, the talent is there and fans should be excited by this arrival and it addresses an area of the pitch that required a bit more quality.

Now, it's about finalising this deal and he could be one of a few in for Cardiff today.
