Cardiff City are preparing a bid for Bordeaux man Younousse Sankharé as they look to finalise a deal for the left-sider ahead of local rivals Swansea City.

Reports from France over the weekend suggested that the Senegal international has been attracting a lot of interest from sides in England, with Premier League Sheffield United set to battle the Welsh pair for Sankharé.

And, TEAMtalk have now revealed that the Bluebirds have moved ahead in the race for the player, with the Championship side ready to lodge a bid as they look to add to Neil Warnock's squad ahead of the new season.

Capable of playing at left-back, Sankharé predominantly played in midfield last season and scored one league goal from 22 games as Bordeaux finished 14th in the French top-flight.

However, only seven of those appearances came in 2019, with the 29-year-old having to settle for a place on the bench for much of the final part of the season.

It had been reported earlier in the window that Greek giants Olympiacos and Nottingham Forest had been monitoring the player who is expected to leave this summer.

The Verdict

Sankharé is a man in demand so it would be something of a coup for Warnock if they could finalise a deal for the player.

It's clear they are hoping to do just that as they ready a big, although it could prompt action from some rival bidders and you would imagine that if the Blades do go in for the wide man then Premier League football will appeal.

Nevertheless, Cardiff are an attractive option as they look to bounce back and Sankharé would be a key player in Wales.

So, it will be interesting to see how this plays out as it seems inevitable that the former Guingamp man will move on.
