Championship outfit Cardiff City could face a fresh battle to keep striker Kenneth Zohore as Brighton manager Chris Hughton was seen keeping tabs on the 23-year-old in their win over Sheffield United last night, reports ClubCall.
The forward only moved to the South Wales outfit last year following a decent loan spell with the club the campaign before, and he has since gone from strength to strength at the Cardiff City Stadium.
The Denmark youth international has scored 15 goals in 45 games for the Bluebirds, 12 goals of which came last term in just 29 Championship appearances to help Neil Warnock’s side secure a top-half finish.
And, unsurprisingly, the 23-year-old’s excellent goal-scoring form has attracted interest over the summer, not least from Premier League side Brighton, who appear to ready to step up their efforts to land the Dane as recent reports suggest that manager Hughton was in attendance watching Zohore in their win over Sheffield United on Tuesday.
The forward played 89 minutes but failed to net as Warnock’s men preserved their 100% record in the Championship this term with a 2-0 success over the Blades, but he has opened his account for the new season with the winner in their narrow victory at Burton Albion on the opening day.
Zohore signed a new three-year deal with Cardiff earlier in the summer but that hasn’t stopped interest mounting in the 23-year-old, with reports suggesting that Hull City have had a bid rejected for the Danish sensation.
And Hughton’s scouting mission yesterday could suggest that Brighton are looking to firm up their interest in the Cardiff forward.
The Verdict: Kenneth Zohore was outstanding for Cardiff last term, with his 12 goals in 29 Championship games a key factor in their rise to 12th place under Neil Warnock.
He has begun this season in similar fashion with a goal against Burton and assist against Aston Villa, and although he penned a new contract earlier in the summer, it hasn’t stopped speculation building about a possible move away from the club.
And that speculation is likely to develop even further given Chris Hughton’s attendance at the Bluebirds’ win over Sheffield United on Tuesday, with Brighton one of several sides previously linked with the Dane.
It could show that the Seagulls are indeed serious about their interest in Zohore, and thus may mean that Warnock has a fight on his hands keeping the 23-year-old beyond the August 31 deadline.
